How to Cut Your Skinnies at the Ankle Part

Turning your skinnies into cut-offs is an easy way to re-style your wardrobe without making any new purchases. Skinny jeans that come up a few inches above the ankle are stylish, and with just a few simple cuts you can keep up with the latest trends. After you cut off the ankles of your jeans, you can decide if you want to make them look distressed and frayed at the bottom, of if you want to cuff them for a classier look.

Instructions

    1

Put on your skinny jeans and decide where you want to cut them. It might help to stand in front of a mirror while you decide.

    2

Mark a line on one ankle of the pants with chalk at the length you want to make the cut.

    3

Take the pants off, then fold right along the chalk line on the leg you marked. Make sure your fold is even.

    4

Use an iron to flatten the fold so that it looks crisp and is easily visible.

    5

Cut off the ankle of the pant leg about a half inch below the crease.

    6

Line up the cut pant leg on top of the other leg, then carefully cut the ankle of the second leg to match the first one.

    7

Wash the skinny jeans if you want to encourage them to fray around the ankles. You might have to pick at the threads at the bottom to loosen them and then wash them a second time to get them really frayed.

    8

Fold up the ankles of each pant leg once or twice if you like the rolled up look instead.
