Care Instructions for Expensive Denim Jeans

Care Instructions for Expensive Denim Jeans

Expensive jeans don't usually lose their coloring or fit as easily as cheaper versions. Always follow your manufacturer's instructions for washing jeans, as some require dry cleaning. Otherwise, take special care when washing your denim, especially if the jeans are designed with holes and frays. Try not to wash your jeans often, as washing, soaking and the use of detergents eventually cause breakdown in the material and coloring of the denim.

Instructions

    1

Fasten the button of your jeans, close the zipper and turn the jeans inside out. Put the jeans into your washing machine and start the load with cold water, but don't add a cleaning agent until the jeans are submerged in water. If you don't have a washing machine, fill a sink or tub with cold water and soak the jeans.

    2

Add a small amount of chemical-free detergent to the wash. If you don't want to buy a special detergent, use half a cup of distilled white vinegar instead.

    3

Use the washing machine's gentle cycle or hand wash the denim by frequently squeezing and releasing the jeans to move water in and out of the fabric. Wring out the jeans by twisting them in your hands if hand washing.

    4

Hang your pants to dry. If hanging the denim outside, keep the jeans turned inside out to avoid direct sunlight and fading. Iron them to remove wrinkles if necessary, but check the manufacturer's washing instructions first -- some jeans can't tolerate a hot iron, so you may have to use steam instead.
