When you think of wearing overalls, do you think of painting or '90s grunge fashion? Overalls no longer need to be considered old-fashioned, childish or simply practical. A bold fashion statement, overalls can be made modern and trendy with the right accessories and styling. With a few twists, you can make overalls the new "it" denim to wear.
Instructions
- 1
Purchase a pair of overalls that has a modern cut. Avoid overalls that are too baggy. Overalls should fit your frame and shouldn't overwhelm you. Since the overall look is laid-back, look for a pair that has faded, "worn in" details. Dark overalls, on the other hand, will transform your look into a more refined, urban look. You can even find overalls in other fabrics, such as silk.
2Keep it simple. Wear a white V-neck shirt underneath your overalls. Make sure your T-shirt fits close to your body to balance out the loose-fitting overalls.
3Roll up the bottom of the pants to show off your ankles. This keeps you looking modern and slim, especially if you're petite. When wearing short overalls, cuff your shorts.
4Add a pop of color. If the denim of the overalls overwhelms you or washes you out, try adding a pop of bright, refreshing color. Wear a red blouse underneath or a patterned tank top. To keep the look from looking too relaxed, add a bright colored clutch.
5Accessorize. Turn overalls into classy attire with long chain necklaces, modern wedge sandals, and bold bangle bracelets. The wedge sandals will add a bit of height, especially if you roll up the pant legs. You can also try pairing overalls with peep-toe flats.
6Look for feminine details to add. Since overalls tend to look tomboyish and rugged, try adding feminine details to your outfit for contrast. For instance, add a ruffled blouse underneath or a floral chiffon button-down. Wear ballet flats in a soft, pastel color.
