How to Create Professional Looking Holes in Skinny Jeans

Skinny jeans harkens back to the 1950s: think Audrey Hepburn dancing in the motion picture Funny Face. In fact, The Gap used clips from that movie to advertise its skinny pants line. Common names for the style, over the past six decades, include pegs, stovepipes and cigarette pants. Ms. Hepburns werent made of denim nor did they bear holes like the skinny jeans of today. If youve found a pair of skinny jeans that fit perfectly but lack holes, its easy to create professional looking holes at home.

Instructions

    1

Put on the skinny jeans and look in a full-length mirror. Determine where you want to make the holes and place a piece of masking tape on the area as a reminder. If you want holes in the knees, bend your knee slightly and place a small piece of tape at the point of your knee.

    2

Lay the jeans on a table or other flat, hard surface.

    3

Use the scissors to cut the hole straight across. For a more realistic hole, snip a small spot and use your hands to rip it to the width you want.

    4

Create small holes, such as those typically seen around the pockets, by poking a hole completely through the fabric with a sharp instrument, such as an awl. Use your finger to widen it to the width you desire.

    5

Wash and dry the skinny jeans to fray the edges of the holes.
