How to Freeze Jeans

Expensive jeans are an investment that needs protection. Trendy, couture denim runs, fades, shrinks and becomes misshapen in a traditional washing machine -- even with gentle cold-water hand washing. But you can't expect to remove odors, bacteria and body oils from your jeans without water. Or can you? Intense exposure to temperatures below 32 degrees Fahrenheit actually kills bacteria, leaving your jeans free of odors and germs.

Instructions

    1

Spot clean any minor stains with a damp cloth. Matter-based stains like pudding or dip are more difficult to remove after freezing. Dry damp spots with a hairdryer so your pants don't freeze with moisture spots.

    2

Shake your jeans vigorously to remove external grit and particles. Empty all pockets so you don't accidentally freeze lipstick or money.

    3

Smooth and fold your jeans lengthwise twice over so they don't freeze with wrinkles.

    4

Insert your folded jeans into a zip-seal plastic bag. Expel excess air from the bag with the weight of your forearm before closing the zip-seal.

    5

Place your jeans in the freezer for a minimum of two days at a temperature below 32 degrees Fahrenheit to completely kill bacteria.

    6

Remove your jeans from the freezer. Shake the denim loose and thaw your jeans over the back of a chair before wearing.
