How to Make Boot Cut Pants

While skinny, tapered jeans have come back into fashion, many people still prefer a comfortable boot cut on a pair of pants. If you have a pair of tapered jeans that fit you perfectly at the waist, thighs and hips but cling tightly to your ankles, you can transform your pants into a boot cut by adding material to the pant leg.

Instructions

    1

Undo the seam running vertically down the outside of both of the legs of the jeans. Apply a seam ripper to the threads, moving downward from the knee of the jeans.

    2

Select fabric that matches the jean fabric or is in a fun design that complements the jean material. Cut a rectangle out of the fabric that measures 2 inches longer than the ripped seam and 1 inch wider than the width you would like the flare of the boot cut to be.

    3

Flip the jeans inside out. Pin the fabric rectangle to the inside of the ripped seam. The fabric should appear in a V-shape with the pant leg. Leave excess fabric on all the sides. Measure each side and keep the rectangle centered over the scene. Fold the bottom of the fabric under to create a straight and clean hem.

    4

Sew the fabric to the seams, three-fifths of an inch from the edge that is ripped. Sew the hem. Repeat this for the other leg.

    5

Remove extra fabric with scissors. Turn the jeans inside out and try them on for a new fit.
