Low-waist jeans might seem like a purely modern fashion trend, but the style actually debuted in the 1960s, only to regain popularity again in the 1990s. You can turn any pair of regular jeans into a low-waist version rather simply. This is also a good solution if you have a pair of pair of regular-cut jeans with a waistband that's uncomfortable or belt loops that you don't particularly like. You need not be a professional fashion designer or seamstress to make these adjustments.
Instructions
- 1
Use a seam ripper. Cut through all the stitches that attach the belt loops to the area of the jeans just beneath the waistband. Dispose of any loose threads.
2Lay the jeans on a flat surface. Locate the line of horizontal stitches at the bottom end of the waistband. This is your cutting line.
3Start at the far left end of the waist of the jeans and cut off the waistband with a pair of extra sharp shears. Stop when you get to the fly. Turn the jeans around and cut off the waistband from the other side.
4Make your final cuts of the denim just beneath the waistband at the fly. This is the hardest material to cut as it's very thick. Be patient and make cuts to match the straightness and line of your earlier cuts.
5Yank the waistband from the pants, removing any lingering loose threads. You can snip away the threads or leave them for a more frayed and distressed look.
