Paint splatter pants have been ubiquitous since the 1980s when designers first introduced the style. Thirty years later, splatter pants are still still seen on runways and in expensive designer boutiques. Making your own paint splatter pants is easy and affordable, and can be done in an afternoon with just a few things that are around almost every house. This project is so easy, you may never want to buy another pair of paint-splattered and distressed jeans from a clothing store.
Instructions
- 1
Cover a flat surface outdoors with newspaper. Place the pants flat on the newspaper.
2Mix acrylic craft paint and textile medium in the ratio recommended on the fabric medium's label. Textile medium is used to help acrylic paint bond with fabric and remain soft and flexible. The ratio for paint-to-medium is usually two parts paint to one part medium.
3Splatter the paint on the pants using a paintbrush or by drizzling it from the container. Fill the paintbrush with paint. Sharply flick your wrist downward. Alternatively, thin the paint with a little water and drizzle it randomly onto the pants.
4Allow the pants to dry. Flip them over and lay them flat on the newspaper.
5Repeat Step 3 on the back of the pants. Allow the pants to dry completely.
6Distress the pants with sandpaper, if desired. Use low-grit sandpaper to "rough up" the fabric. This may take a few minutes of rubbing the desired area to get the desired effect.
