Finding a cute pair of jeans that fit perfectly and are reasonably priced has been something that's eluded women for years. Whether you've lost weight or had children, women experience a shift in their bodies on a regular basis. Knowing how to alter your jeans means you can save on frustration, buy the jeans you love and alter them to fit you the way you want. From taking in saggy seats to fitting that bulky waistband, you'll be able to fix the back of your jeans as needed.
Instructions
- 1
Turn the jeans on inside out. Fit the jeans legs by pulling the material to the inside of your leg. Insert straight pins in a vertical direction, so the jeans legs fit properly.
2Set your jeans on your sewing machine so the needle is at the leg opening on the left leg, by your straight pins. Sew up the left leg, following the straight pins, using the presser foot to slowly stitch up the left inside jean leg. Sew up the left leg, stopping at the center of the crotch.
3Turn the jeans in the sewing machine without removing the jeans from sewing machine. Turn the jeans with the needle of the sewing machine down, meaning it's in the fabric. Sew from the top of the right leg to the leg opening of the right leg, following your straight pins to create new inside seams that fit the jeans to you.
4Take in the waist by removing the belt loop in the center of the back of your jeans. Use a seam ripper, which is a small hook, to get between the thread and the belt loop. Cut the threads holding the belt loop in place.
5Pull out all of the stitches securing the belt loop to your jeans and set the belt loop aside. You can pull the threads out with your fingers once you have cut them with your seam ripper. Put your jeans on, inside out and pin the waistband to size in the middle of the back of the jeans. Use a straight pin to pin the waistband.
6Cut your waist band where you pinned it. Use scissors and cut the waist band in a V shape with the bottom of the V at the bottom of the waist band. Pin the two sides of the V together and slide your jeans onto the sewing machine. Start sewing with the needle at the top of your waist band and sew down to the bottom of your waist band.
7Put the belt loop back in the center of the back of your jeans, and hand sew the top and bottom of the belt loop to the jeans. Thread cotton thread through the eye of a sewing needle, and sew the belt loop back in place, hiding the seam you made in your waist band.
