Old jeans can start piling up in your closet, so it's nice to transform a pair that is probably collecting dust into something you can wear in less than an hour. Not only is turning an old pair of jeans into a jean skirt incredibly eco-friendly, it's also really chic. With a few simple tools like scissors, a seam ripper and a sewing machine, you'll be turning those old blue jeans into a stylish skirt in no time.
Instructions
- 1
Lay the jeans on a flat work surface and cut the legs of the jeans about 12 inches from the bottom up. You can always make the skirt shorter later.
2Rip the inside seams on both legs with a seam ripper. Also rip the seams out just under the zipper at the crotch area. The entire interior seam should be ripped out.
3Flip the jeans inside out and pin the inseam of the skirt together to create the skirt. There will be an overlapping area around the crotch, which is fine. It should lie completely flat when the pinning has been completed.
4With your sewing machine, follow the line of straight pins and sew the seams into the skirt.
5Flip the skirt back out. Slip the skirt on, and make sure it fits properly.
