Jeans That Look Like Leggings

Jeans That Look Like Leggings

"Jeggings" is the common term used to describe jeans that look like leggings. Jeggings differ from regular jeans not only in the way they look, but how they feel. Available in different brands and styles, this fashion trend emerged after "skinny" jeans. Tight, skinny jeans can only be worn by slim women, but jeggings can be worn comfortably on many different body types. Most jeggings manufacturers have made them available in petite, tall and plus sizes as well.

Characteristics

Jeans that look like leggings are softer than actual denim, much like a pair of cotton knit leggings. This style of jeans conforms to a woman's body, fitting tightly over the legs, but with a lot of stretch, just like standard leggings. Although the word is sometimes interchanged, jeggings are not to be confused with a pair of leggings that look like jeans. Leggings that look like jeans are knit from cotton or cotton/polyester blends, while jeans that look like leggings are woven from cotton twill fabric. Both, however, are blended with spandex for stretch.

Style

Jeggings can be worn in dozens of ways; there's no right or wrong way to wear them. Many women prefer to accessorize their jeggings with a top that hits mid-thigh, in order to get more coverage. This is because jeggings are more form-fitting than regular jeans. Wear a long sweater, tunic, blouse or T-shirt. In daytime, wear leggings with a pair of flat shoes or sandals. For evening, dress up your jeggings with a pair of high heels.

Styles

Different brands of jeggings offer different styles. Some jeggings have a zipper and snap or button closure; others are pull-ons. Jeggings may come with five pockets, just like a regular pair of jeans. Alternatively, other jeggings have simulated pockets or are completely plain, the latter known as flat-front jeggings. Some jeggings have embellishments and/or belt loops. Just like regular denim jeans, jeggings come in different colors, washes and fits, such as low or high waist.

Pros and Cons

For many women, jeggings are more comfortable to wear than standard jeans because they stretch and are, therefore, not stiff. Likewise, because they stretch, they can be worn by women of various shapes and sizes.

However, because jeggings are form-fitting, they fit tighter than regular jeans and for those who are body conscious, this might not be the best choice. The fact that some jeggings don't have belt loops might also be a negative factor when considering a pair.
