Most Levi's jeans are blue, or indigo. The color is traditional, and to some not very interesting. To stand out, dye your favorite Levi's jeans a different color. Blue jeans will accommodate most dyes, but it is difficult to fully saturate the jeans so no blue is showing. Instead, concentrate of varying the shade of blue with an additional color like purple or red. This will give your jeans a trendy and unique look.
Instructions
- 1
Wash the Levi's jeans with warm water and mild detergent in the washing machine or sink. This will open up the fibers of the jeans.
2Rinse the jeans and squeeze out the excess water with your hands.
3Put rubber gloves on your hands and cover your work area with old towels or newspaper. Make sure you're wearing clothes that you can afford to accidentally stain with dye.
4Pour a bottle of fiber-reactive dye into a bucket or the sink. Add 1 cup of salt and 4 cups of hot water.
5Continue filling the bucket or sink with 1 gallon of hot water.
6Place the jeans in the dyed water.
7Stir the jeans occasionally with a spoon. Keep them in the dyed water for 20 to 30 minutes. The longer you leave the jeans, the more the color will change.
8Remove the jeans and rinse them in cool water until the water runs clear with no dye.
9Launder the jeans in warm water with mild detergent.
10Hang the jeans and allow them to air dry, or place them in the dryer.
